On the 23rd of April 2016 a coalition of 20 activist networks organized a demonstration under the banner “Stop TTIP & CETA” in Hanover (Germany) against so called transnational free trade agreements such as TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) and CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) – a day before the arrival of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Barack Obama, who will be opening the Hanover exhibition together with the aim of promoting these agreements.

According to the organizers of the demonstration, these so called trade and investments partnerships are unconstitutional and threaten the foundations of democracy in Germany and Europe. On the website of the organizers it states: “We require a social and ecological barriers for globalization. But TTIP and CETA are taking us in the wrong direction.”

Organizers estimate that 90,000 people took part to demonstrate against TTIP, CETA and even TISA. Other media outlets and police reports estimate circa 35,000 participants.

We interviewed a number experts and organizers with diverse expertise to find out more about the significance and meaning of these free trade agreements.

Why Support acTVism Munich?

acTVism Munich has attained permission from the University of Arizona to translate into multiple languages an event that hosted Edward Snowden, Glenn Greenwald and Noam Chomsky in which they discussed the meaning and significance of privacy. This event took place on the 25th of March, 2016, and was organized by the University of Arizona College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Lastly, we are attempting to mobilize our volunteers in New York to record an event organized by the New York Public Libary (NYPL) that is hosting Yanis Varoufakis and Noam Chomsky. This event will take place on the 26th of April, 2016, and will discuss the state of democracy in Europe as well as the economic and social problems confronting it. The translation and publishing process depends on you – with your donation we can reach a global audience and create awareness on these topics.

acTVism Munich has very limited financial resources and requires your immediate support to materialize these projects. From transportation, lodging, food, production, translation, and other costs, given our scarce resources, it will be a very difficult task to execute them.
