“<\/strong>A new report by the Netherlands-based peace organization PAX<\/span> accuses 150 financial institutions\u2014including U.S. banking giants JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America\u2014of investing billions of dollars in companies manufacturing internationally banned cluster bombs. The weapons contain bomblets which fan out over a wide area and often fail to explode until civilians pick them up later.“<\/strong> [1]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Excerpt from The Intercept:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“<\/strong>The House on Thursday<\/span> narrowly defeated a measure that would have banned the transfer of cluster bombs to Saudi Arabia, but the closeness of the vote was an indication of growing congressional opposition to the conduct of the U.S.-backed, Saudi-led bombing coalition in Yemen.<\/p>\n

The vote was mostly along party lines, with 200 Republicans \u2013 and only 16 Democrats \u2013 heeding the Obama administration\u2019s urging to vote against the measure. The vote was 204-216<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Department of Defense strongly opposes this amendment,\u201d said Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J., chairman of the House Committee on Defense Appropriations, during floor debate. \u201cThey advise us that it would stigmatize cluster munitions, which are legitimate weapons with clear military utility.“<\/strong> [2]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

acTVism Munich plans to continue translating the event organized by the University of Arizona, \u201cA Conversation to Privacy<\/i>\u201d that hosted Edward Snowden, Glenn Greenwald and Noam Chomsky. We Munich believe that privacy is a central ingredient to democracy and creating awareness on it on a global scale is of utmost importance for the future of human freedom and liberty. We will also continue to translate an event organized by the New York Public Library (NYPL) that hosted Yanis Varoufakis and Noam Chomsky. This event took place on the 26th of April, 2016, and focused, amongst other issues, on the state of European democracy; the underlying problems confronting it and the solutions required for meaningful change.<\/p>\n

Federal Press Conference in Berlin<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Secondly, acTVism Munich will gain full access to the German Federal Press Conference in Berlin starting late August. This will provide us an opportunity to pose critical questions directly to the German government which will foster awareness on a host of issues seldom discussed in the mainstream media. The attempt is to translate and synchronize the Q&As into English as well.<\/p>\n

We lack technical and financial resources to translate the events and press conference mentioned above. Furthermore, we will only be able to attend the press conference once every 3 months due to the high costs of travelling and lodging.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Lastly, acTVism Munich received Edward Snowden\u2019s confirmation on his participation in a future event known as \u201cFreedom & Democracy: Global Issues \u2013 Connecting the Dots<\/i>\u201d. In this event we plan to bring leading experts together to discuss the connections between various issues and reveal the system at work. We believe that we can only arrive at viable solutions by increasing public awareness of the principal and structural faults of our system. More details to this event will follow in August.<\/p>\n
