We successfully attained permission to translate and republish this event, and we are happy to announce that our volunteers accomplished this goal. The event is now available in German and will be digitally archived. Although we have the personnel to translate the content into Spanish, French and Greek as well, we lack the financial resources that would free up the necessary time required to undertake this critical initiative. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.actvism.org\/en\/donate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">If you think it is important to translate such events into multiple languages in order to create awareness beyond the United States, then click here to donate to our current Crowdfunding campaign. In 2013, he revealed that the NSA was seizing the private records of billions of individuals who had not been suspected of any wrongdoing, resulting in the most significant reforms to US surveillance policy since 1978.<\/p>\n<p>He has received awards for courage, integrity, and public service, and was named the top global thinker of 2013 by Foreign Policy magazine. Today, he works on methods of enforcing human rights through the application and development of new technologies. His work has influenced a wide range of domains, including artificial intelligence, cognitive science, computer science, logic, mathematics, music theory and analysis, psychology and immunology.<\/p>\n<p>Chomsky also developed the propaganda model of media criticism with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_S._Herman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edward S. Herman<\/a> which they presented in their book \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manufacturing_Consent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media<\/a>\u201c. In June 2013 Greenwald became widely known after <i>The Guardian<\/i> published the first of a series of reports detailing United States and British <a title=\"Global surveillance\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Global_surveillance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">global surveillance<\/a> programs, based on classified documents disclosed by <a title=\"Edward Snowden\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edward_Snowden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Edward Snowden<\/a>. The series on which Greenwald worked along with others won the 2014 <a title=\"Pulitzer Prize for Public Service\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pulitzer_Prize_for_Public_Service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pulitzer Prize for Public Service<\/a>.His reporting on the <a title=\"National Security Agency\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_Security_Agency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Security Agency<\/a> (NSA) won numerous other awards around the world, including top investigative journalism prizes from the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"George Polk Award\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Polk_Award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">George Polk Award<\/a> for National Security Reporting,the 2013 Online Journalism Awards, the <a title=\"Esso Journalism Award\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Esso_Journalism_Award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Esso Award for Excellence in Reporting<\/a> in Brazil for his articles in <i><a title=\"O Globo\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/O_Globo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">O Globo<\/a><\/i> on NSA mass surveillance of Brazilians (becoming the first foreigner to win the award), the 2013 Libertad de Expresion Internacional award from Argentinian magazine <i><a title=\"Perfil\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Perfil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Perfil<\/a><\/i>, and the 2013 Pioneer Award from the <a title=\"Electronic Frontier Foundation\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Electronic_Frontier_Foundation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Electronic Frontier Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>His work on the NSA files was in part the subject of the film <i><a title=\"Citizenfour\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Citizenfour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Citizenfour<\/a><\/i>, which won the 2014 <a title=\"Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Academy_Award_for_Best_Documentary_Feature\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Academy Award for Best Documentary<\/a>.
