Ex-CIA Officer: What’s Behind the Terrorism Accusation Against Iran

7. April 2026

As the United States labels Iran a leading state sponsor of terrorism, a former CIA officer challenges this narrative. In an interview conducted by Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Chris Hedges, John Kiriakou examines the role of U.S. intelligence agencies and their allies, the use of proxy groups, and how the term “terrorism” is applied in geopolitical contexts.

At the center is a key question: Is terrorism assessed objectively or used as a political tool?
