Australia and the UK Obey Israel’s Censorship Orders

22. December 2025

In this video, Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Glenn Greenwald examines a striking shift in the approach of Western democracies following violent attacks on Jewish communities. Israeli government officials publicly called for restrictions on certain political expressions, and governments in the United Kingdom, Australia, Europe, and the United States moved to adopt new or expanded measures in response.

Greenwald analyzes how broadened definitions of antisemitism, intensified policing, and arrests linked to slogans or political speech are reshaping the boundaries of free expression, and asks who ultimately decides which words are permitted — and what it means for democratic societies when political speech becomes criminalized.
