UK Home Secretary Priti Patel approved the extradition order of Julian Assange to the United States. Patel’s decision was met with significant criticism from press freedom and human rights organizations around the world. According to a statement released by Birnberg Peirce Solicitors, Assange will appeal the decision. The appeal is likely to focus on the broader press freedom issues and the political nature of the case. Assange remains in Belmarsh Prison and will celebrate his 51st birthday on July 3rd in a maximum security prison.
