He is the author of ‘The Jakarta Method’, a new history of cold war violence that was named one of the best books of the year by NPR, the Financial Times, GQ, and CounterPunch. He covered Southeast Asia for the Washington Post, after serving as Brazil Correspondent for the Los Angeles Times, and previously worked for the Financial Times in London.
