Sanctioned, Isolated & Silenced: Francesca Albanese

12. July 2026

Journalist Chris Hedges speaks with UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese about her book “When the World Sleeps” — and the price she has paid for her work. Albanese describes how, after her reports on Gaza, she was sanctioned, financially isolated, and placed under massive pressure. At the same time, she explains why she refuses to remain silent despite these attacks.

At the center of the conversation are the genocide in Gaza, the targeted destruction of the healthcare system, torture against Palestinian prisoners, the role of Western media, and the question of why international law is failing where it is needed most. Albanese connects personal stories from Palestine with a sharp analysis of power, impunity, and the responsibility of a world that has looked away for too long.

This video was produced by The Chris Hedges Report and published on their YouTube channel on the 7th of July, 2026. We have translated it into German and are republishing it today to help build opinion on this issue in Germany and beyond.
