FROM FRANCE: Macron Tightens Protest Restrictions – Civil Liberties Under Pressure

4. November 2026

In this video, investigative journalist and human rights lawyer Dimitri Lascaris reports directly from Lyon on the latest restrictions affecting protests and public gatherings in France. On the ground, he encounters a heavy police presence, restricted areas and demonstrations permitted only under specific conditions. What is happening to the right to protest in France — and why are the boundaries around public dissent becoming increasingly narrow?

Lascaris also turns to a broader question: what happens to political movements when protest is increasingly confined within limits set by the state? He draws parallels with Greece after the financial crisis and looks ahead to the announced general strike in Paris — raising the question of whether France may be entering a new phase of social and political confrontation.
