In this video, American journalist and author Chris Hedges and journalist and cartoonist Joe Sacco discuss their new book, Requiem for Gaza. At the center of the conversation are fundamental questions about the nature of Hamas, October 7, the impact of Israeli policies on Palestinians, and how journalists can report on a conflict to which they have developed a deep emotional connection.
Hedges and Sacco also explore how illustrations can make visible experiences that are difficult to convey through words alone, and what responsibility journalists have toward the people whose stories they tell. The discussion ultimately turns to a broader question: what could the war in Gaza and the political developments of recent years mean in the long term for Israel, the Palestinians, and the future of the region?
This video was produced by Chris Hedges and published on his YouTube channel on the 22nd of October, 2026. We have translated it into German and are republishing it today to help build opinion on this issue in Germany and beyond.
