ABOUT RAY McGOVERN

Raymond McGovern is a former Central Intelligence Agency employee turned political commentator and activist. During his 27 years as a CIA analyst, he was chief of the Soviet Foreign Policy Division in the 1960s and deputy National Intelligence Officer for Western Europe in the 1970s. In the 1980s, he chaired the National Intelligence Estimates and prepared the President’s Daily Brief. Upon retirement, he received the CIA’s Intelligence Commendation Medal, which he returned in 2006 to protest CIA involvement in torture. In 2003, he co-founded Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS).
