Is Turkey Warming Up To Iran?

9. December 2025

In this interview, investigative journalist and human rights lawyer Dimitri Lascaris speaks with Prof. Dr. Foad Izadi, Professor of World Studies at the University of Tehran, about Turkey’s relations with Israel, the United States, and Iran in the context of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s recent visit to Tehran and the ongoing war in Gaza. Izadi discusses Turkey’s existing trade and energy ties with Israel and their impact on Iran and Hezbollah, the conditions and intelligence activities along the Iranian-Turkish border, the interest-driven and limited support Iran receives from Russia and China, and why he believes that the UN “snapback” sanctions have been far less consequential than the broader U.S. economic pressure on Iran.
