Why Israel Attacked Iran — and Why It Backfired | Dr. Shir Hever

4. July 2025

In this episode of The Source, our senior editor Zain Raza speaks with Dr. Shir Hever, economist and author, about the 12-day war between Israel and Iran. They examine the political motivations behind Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to strike Iran—and why the operation may have backfired both militarily and economically.

The conversation then shifts to Gaza, analyzing the deepening humanitarian crisis, Israel’s long-term objectives, and the broader question: why does the West continue to support Israel despite mounting evidence of war crimes—if not genocide?
