CROWDFUNDING: Protect Press Freedom & Independent Journalism

On December 4, 2020, we launched our crowdfunding campaign with the goal of continuing our independent and non-profit journalism for the year 2021. This campaign will end on the 6th of January 2021.

The corona crisis and the fact that social media is limiting the reach of independent media such as our on YouTube, we have been put in a very difficult situation where our reach and donations are getting affected adversely. Every year since our founding in the year 2014, we were able to gain new subscribers every month. Our videos were suggested by YouTube to new audiences. This trend however was reversed starting in October of this year where our videos are rarely, if at all, getting suggested to new audiences. We are not winning any new subscribers, which is unprecedented given our past record. In addition the corona crisis is having a major impact on our economy and affecting our donations adversely. Our one time as well as monthly donations are below our operative costs every month, and if we continue with this trend, we will have to close our operations the summer of 2021.

This includes our regular reporting on press freedom cases – especially on Julian Assange. A true and vibrant democracy can only function when individuals collectively understand the value of an independent and free press – the fourth estate – and protect it with vigor. Why should you support our journalism?

Thanks to your support in our Crowdfunding campaign of 2019, we were able to provide a platform for numerous local and international experts (also in German translation) in 2020. Among the renowned experts and journalists who appeared on our channel were WikiLeaks, Nils Melzer, Glenn Greenwald, Jennifer Robinson, Jill Stein, Edward Snowden, Abby Martin, Ernst Wolff, Peter Kuznick, Noam Chomsky, Bill Black, Linsey McGoey, Nicholas Shaxson, Chris Hedges, Tariq Ali and many others. We not only focused on experts, but also on local initiatives relentlessly every day to make the world a better place. These included Sea Shepherd Germany e.V., Mehr Demokratie e.V., Whistleblower Network, Sanktionsfrei e.V., Stopp Air Base Ramstein, Munich Alliance against War and Racism, and Initiative for Yemen. All of this had a major impact in 2020: Our channel recorded 4.6 million views, 722,500 hours were watched in total and we were able to gain over 47,700 new subscribers! To put our 2020 progress into context: Since our launch, our channel has reached a total of approximately 10.1 million views, 1.7 million hours have been watched and gained approximately 88,000 subscribers. 2020 was by far the best year since our founding.
