Today on the 15th of April, 2017, the German government led by German Chancellor Angela Merkel granted authorization to the prosecutor’s office in Mainz to go after ZDF comedian and moderator Jan Böhmermann. His alleged crime is that he performed a poem in which he insulted the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who filed a criminal complaint with the state prosecutor in Mainz, where ZDF is based.
